How key sport and recreation facilities have contributed to Copper Coast's appeal and sustainability

Russell Peate is the Chief Executive Officer of the Copper Coast Council in South Australia, a role he has held since 28th February 2019. Russell has over 35 years experience in senior management positions in Local Government in South Australia and Queensland as follows:-

  • Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Rockhampton City Council from 1990 to 1998 (a Regional City of over 60,000 people)
  • Chief Executive Officer, District Council of Grant from 1998 to 2012
  • Chief Executive Officer, Mid Murray Council 2012 to 2019
  • Chief Executive Officer, Copper Coast Council

Russell has been a member of the previous Institute of Municipal Management, Local Government Managers Australia and now Local Government Professionals. Russell has previously been State President of the then Local Government Managers Australia - South Australia and a Board Member for 10 years.

Russell was also the Inaugural Exchange Manager for Local Government Managers Australia National to South Africa in 2001. He has been a Board member of a number of community organisations and has a keen interest in community partnership and development.

Russell has a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accountancy and Public Administration and a Master of Business majoring in Local Government Management, has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course and the Professional Leadership Program by Adelaide University.
